2011 – Table Rock Lake Event
Nestled in the Ozark Mountains, scenic Table Rock Lake and Branson, Mo., will play host for the second stop on the 2011 PAA Tournament Series at the midpoint of the season.
One of the most well-known lakes in the nation, Table Rock will offer the field a challenging array of options amid some of the most beautiful surroundings anywhere. Table Rock sprawls with 750 miles of shoreline and can fluctuate between 43,000 acres to more than 52,300 acres. Numerous coves offer solitude, and anglers will have their pick of deep structure along with more than enough shoreline cover.
The tournament will move its first two days’ events to Chateau on the Lake Marina in Branson, Mo., to provide better access for participating anglers and fans attending daily weigh-ins and launches.
The tournament is scheduled for June 23-25, featuring some of the top professional bass anglers in the nation. Thursday and Friday morning launches and weigh-ins will take place at Chateau on the Lake Marina. Saturday’s final day morning launch will also go out of Chateau on the Lake Marina, with the afternoon weigh-in to be held at Bass Pro Shops at Branson Landing.
Record high water levels on Table Rock Lake necessitated the move during the tournament but many of the facilities and businesses around the lake remain open and ready for visitors. Table Rock State Park and State Park Marina are open for camping and activities.
Bass Pro Shops pro Brian Snowden of Missouri lives near and has guided on Table Rock for years. Along with December, he said June is one of the top months to be on the lake.
“It will be consistently good and take probably 18 to 20 pounds a day to win,” Snowden said. “It would normally be structure fishing, but with the water up in the bushes a good shallow bite could dominate. This will be a fun tournament. People will catch a lot of fish and June is one of the best times of the year for the lake. You’ll catch 15-20 keepers a day.”
Snowden said with the water level so high on Table Rock right now, the shallow bite could be on fire. The lake currently is at about 928 feet, well above normal summer pool, and acres of bushes and trees are underwater. Jigs, plastics, spinnerbaits and topwaters could dominate.
“We usually look at the shallow bite as being good at about 917, so there’s 10 feet of water above that,” he said. “I don’t believe the offshore stuff will be a factor because the structure is so deep now. This high water will pretty much even the playing field for everyone.”
Table Rock Dam was completed and dedicated in June 1959 following almost 50 years of planning and political negotiating. The dam’s creation of Table Rock Lake, by backing up the White River, helped spawn a watersports recreational industry to Branson and other Missouri towns also known for their entertainment tourism.
The dam itself is an engineering marvel, a combination of earth and concrete. The dam is 6,423 feet long, with a concrete portion of 1,602 feet. It is about 252 feet above the White River stream bed. There are approximately 3.32 million cubic yards of dirt in the earthen embankment.
