Cherokee Lake in scenic northeastern Tennessee will host the first tournament in the 2010 PAA Bass Pro Shops Tournament Series presented by Carrot Stix. Anglers will compete for up to $400,000 in cash and prizes on the 28,780-acre lake. Cherokee Dam was constructed between Aug. 1, 1940 and Dec. 5, 1941 on the Holston River, about 52 miles upstream from where the Holston and French Broad rivers converge to form the Tennessee River. Cherokee Lake has largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass, along with other gamefish species. It was named for the great tribe of Native Americans that inhabited the Southeast.
